My name is Marinus Bartel Fanoy. I am better known as Bart. I live, work and play in Queenswood, a suburb of Pretoria in South Africa. Cabinetmaker by trade and Mechanical Draughtsman by profession, who loves to work with his hands, forever making or building something.
Knives always intrigued me, therefore, after meeting Gawie Herbs, a member of the Knifemakers Guild of South Africa, at a show, I attended all the knife-making courses he presented.
I am now a part time knife maker, working from a small but adequately equipped workshop striving to produce knives of excellent quality.
The knives are entirely hand made, machining is kept to the bare minimum, which makes each knife unique.
Blade materials used are; 12c27, 19c29 Stainless Steel from Sandvic or Damascus steel from Bertie Rietveld or Mosaiek Damascus from Ettore Gianferrari or Damassteel from Sweden. For the liners in my Liner lock Folders I only use Titanium (plain or anodised).
Handle material could be anything from Mammoth ivory, ivory, mother of pearl, Giraffe bone (stained and stabilized), Buffalo horn, stabilized woods, also some synthetic materials like carbon fibre, or G10 Micarta.
